Following the RC44 long-established practice of offering sessions outside the ISA conference giving space for participants to hear about labour issues in place and engage with organisations and activists working on them, we have extended the RC44 ISA Congress programme in Toronto to two sessions, which also bring together conversations happening across spaces. The Research Committee on Labour Movements (RC44) in collaboration with the Workers’ Action Centre (WAC) invite you to join a series of public discussions about transformative organizing efforts taking place in Canada, South Africa, South Korea, the U.S. and globally to build movement power from the ground up. We will hear from leading organizers and scholar-activists about efforts to raise minimum wages and improve employment standards’ enforcement; build and strengthen domestic workers’ movements; secure migrant labour and human rights and status for all people; democratize unions and promote rank-and-file leadership and education; and ensure food sovereignty and climate justice. The first discussion is on Sunday, 15th July from 13h30. The second is on Wednesday, 18th July from 18h00. Both are held at the Workers’ Action Centre, 720 Spadina Avenue, Suite 202, Toronto, ON M5S 2T9. The RC44 Activist Session Programme is attached. For catering purposes, it is very important to please RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/transformative-labour-organizing-in-precarious-times-tickets-47094511953. The Workers’ Action Centre is the same venue as the RC44 reception co-hosted with RC02. The reception will take place on Monday, July 16, 2018, at 8:00 pm (20:00) to 9:30 (21:30), at Workers’ Action Center, 720 Spadina Ave. #202. Please find the map with directions to the Workers Action Centre attached.
